In a statement on Tuesday, NASA principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Musalia Mudavadi called for the shelving of the electoral boundary reviews arguing that they did not have faith in the Commission as currently constituted.

“Given the amendments that Jubilee introduced to the election laws agreed on in the run-up to the 2017 polls, and having presided over elections marred by illegalities and irregularities, the IEBC cannot preside over the review of boundaries,” read the statement in part.

The opposition leaders accused the Wafula Chebukati-led commission of working with the Jubilee administration to create new constituencies in the run-up to the 2022 elections.

The NASA principals said they will focus their energies on pushing for reforms in IEBC, in their quest for electoral justice in the country.

They noted that the country will not hold elections in 2022, until the irregularities witnessed in the 2017 polls are addressed.

“We urge all our members to singularly focus on electoral justice and vacate all discussions of 2022 elections,” said the principals.

The boundaries reviews which are required to take place at intervals of not less than eight years and not more than 12 years were set to begin in February and end in August 2021.
