President Uhuru Kenyatta has pointed an accusing finger at Nasa over what he termed as ‘dividing Kenyans on tribal lines’.

Speaking in Meru County during a meet-the-people tour, the president said Nasa’s concentration was on the 10 million voters it has claimed on garnering, and not the interest of Kenyans.

He further said Odinga’s statement in Maasai amounted to hate speech, and one which will divide Kenyans on such tribal lines.

“For us, we are conscious of where we are coming from and what the seeds of discord had cost this country and that is why we seek to promote peaceful co-existence of all Kenyans,” said Uhuru.

“As opposed, we seek to transform the lives of all Kenyans through innovative programmes such as free maternity care, last mile electricity connections and free primary and secondary schooling that will be rolled out from January,” said Uhuru.

Odinga’s statement in Kajiado two weeks ago has continued to elicit reactions from different politicians and leaders, with the Jubilee Party in particular calling on his arrest for propagating hate speech.

However, Odinga has defended himself, saying he was misquoted and his sentiments blown out of proportion.

The duo toured different parts of Meru County, making stops in South Imenti, Central Imenti, Buuri and North Imenti.
