President Uhuru Kenyatta and Governor Hassan Joho are scheduled to hold parallel political rallies in Mombasa as the race to State House becomes tougher. The rallies come at a time when the opposition is fighting to retain the massive support it enjoys in the region, which the ruling party Jubilee is seeking to weaken. The Sunday rallies will be the second time the two sides will hold parallel meetings in Mombasa in a bid to woo residents to back their candidates during the forthcoming general election. Joho has been at loggerheads with the current government after accusing President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto of attempting to hijack projects funded by international organisations.Former Kisauni MP Anania Mwaboza confirmed Jubilee's rally will take place at Tononoka grounds. The rally is being organised by State House, Nairobi, so I have very little details to give. What I know is that President Uhuru Kenyatta will be there,” said Mwaboza, as quoted by The Star.Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Joho said NASA is prepared for the Sunday rally adding that Jubilee is welcome in the region.“They can do what they want. We have no issues with that. The only thing we want known is that everybody has a right to campaign. We will not interfere with them and they should not interfere with us,” he said. The outspoken governor also said they had planned the oppositions rally some time back, adding that Jubilee leaders might be planning to counter the opposition.“It could be either way. Jubilee may have planned a parallel rally to counter NASA’s. We don’t know what their plans are. We have no idea about their programme, but we have a running one that should not be seen as having a parallel rally,” he added.
