Plans to hold the presidential elections set for October took a hit on Thursday, after talks between the Jubilee Party and the opposition coalition collapsed.

The two parties failed to agree on sticky issues, with the NASA coalition up in arms after the Jubilee Party pushed through the bills to amend election laws in parliament on Thursday.

The Nasa delegation, led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, walked out of the meeting, which was called by IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati to find a solution to a looming stalemate facing the October 26 election.

According to Orengo, the planned elections will be affected with the proposed ammendments by the Jubilee Party.

“We have walked out of the meeting because the rules of the games are being changed midstream. They are creating a legal regime that will help them rig elections,” he said.

“If we have reached a point where laws can be changed through the backdoor, Nasa has no choice but to walk out and leave them to their desires because Jubilee is determined to return Kenya into a dictatorship,” Orengo added.

NASA Executive Director Norman Magaya held on that if these issues are not looked into, there will be no elections.

“Let Jubilee know that they will not get away with this. A bombshell is awaiting them. October 26 is just another day on the Kenyan calendar. There will be no election,” said Magaya.
