Homa Bay woman Representative Gladys Wanga has refused to honour summons to appear before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over hate speech.

Wanga is accused of making inflammatory remarks during an opposition rally.

Her lawyer Otiende Amollo said the summons by Francis Ole Kaparo led team were issued with less than 12 hours left.

Amollo, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rarieda, said on Tuesday that his client had already left Nairobi, hence could not honor the summon.

Wanga’s counsel questioned the manner in which NCIC was handling hate speech cases.

“The approach is selective, it appears the chairman no longer understands why the commission was constituted,” Otiende said.

Also summoned was Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

Kuria appeared before the commission but did not talk to media after the session. He reported at about 10am and left shortly after 1pm, The Star reports

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is also expected to face the integration commission over remarks against Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
