Members of the national assembly allied to the opposition coalition National Super Alliance (NASA) now want Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to resign over increased terror attacks in the Northern part of the country.
Speaking during a parliamentary session Wednesday, Alego Usonga lawmaker Samuel Atandi said that Matiang'i should take responsibility for a recent attack that left three teachers dead in Wajir county.
Somali based terror group Al Shabaab has been blamed for the attack, with the lawmaker saying that the same is a demonstration of Matiang'i's inability to guarantee Kenyans of their safety.
"We have an Interior Cabinet Secretary who is more interested in politicking than carrying out his duties. He has demonstrated that he is not the man for the job and has to either take responsibilities for the recent attack or resign," said the MP.
His comments were echoed by the house Minority Leader John Mbadi who said that the alliance will have the CS under the spotlight until he either takes charge or resigns.
"The only way we will stop discussing him on the floor of this house is if he resigns," said the Suba South lawmaker.
The block also called for the withdrawal of non-local teachers in the region to avoid repeat attacks, a move that was opposed by the ruling Jubilee side.
"Withdrawing teachers from the region will mean that the government has given in to the enemy's terms. Their plan is to ensure that there is no any resemblance of government in the region," said the house Majority Leader and Garissa town MP Aden Duale.
