A National Super Alliance (Nasa) politician had his car reduced to ashes and his nomination papers stolen before he presented them to the IEBC for clearance.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MCA aspirant was reportedly ambushed by the assailants near his home in Kivandini village, Machakos County at about 11pm, Monday.
The victim, Dominic Muya, is eyeing the Mwala/Makutano seat.
"Immediately after parking my car in my compound, I saw three men dash out of a house under construction and come towards me...I walked towards my car and opened it for them before running away," he said, as reported by The Star.
He said he heard a loud bang minutes later and found his car burning when he returned to check.
Noting the gang neither stole nor harmed him, the Nasa affiliated politician said he believed the attack was politically motivated.
ODM officials have condemned the attack.
“We will get other papers for our candidate before the day," said Dominic Kaleli, ODM’s Machakos County secretary general.
Mwala OCPD Henry Rukaria said they are investigating the matter.
