Sources privy to NASA negotiations on their power-sharing formula have confirmed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will fly the opposition flag with Kalonzo Musyoka as his running-mate.
Raila is poised get the armband owing to his dominant political constituency, network, resources, and age.
Kalonzo on the other hand is viewed as the only denominator that should remain in the presidency either as the candidate or running mate, thanks to regional balance and his former positions as vice president.
According to sources, the NASA team believes that giving him a position lesser than running-mate may motivate his supporters into supporting president Uhuru Kenyatta's second term.
It is understood that after the two presidential positions were assigned Raila and Kalonzo respectively, the Luhyia vote had to be appeased with a realistic offer.
It was then that Mudavadi negotiators demanded a Nairobi gubernatorial seat as this is viewed as the third senior most position in Kenya's political ranking.
It is believed that Raila himself has not objected to this demand and is ready to sacrifice Evans Kidero to have Mudavadi fly the NASA Nairobi county chief flag.
Kidero is being advised to accept to be Mudavadi's running mate so that in the event NASA garners majority seats in the National assembly, a position of Chief Minister shall be created for Mudavadi who will subsequently resign as governor paving way for Kidero to assume his former seat.
Meanwhile Moses Wetangula is set to vie for Bungoma Governor as a way of clipping the incessant rebellion the incumbent Kenneth Lusaka.
