The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) should consult President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga before organizing a fresh election, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has said.
According to the lawmaker, consulting the two leaders is among the ways the commission will ensure peace before, during and after the elections.
This is after the Supreme Court nullified the presidential elections.
The lawmaker was speaking at Mavoko Stadium in Athi River town on Wednesday during a thanksgiving ceremony after retaining his post.
"For peace's sake, Raila and Uhuru must be consulted before the electoral agency sets a date for the election," he said, as quoted by the Star.
The MP also called upon Kenyans to have confidence that the electoral commission will conduct a free and fair exercise, adding that the opposition and ruling party need to agree before any step is made.
"Let us sit down, dialogue and agree before we get to the ballot," he added.
Makau also exuded confidence that NASA Leader Raila, also former Prime Minister will floor President Kenyatta during the rerun following the nullification of Jubilee’s win.
