Veteran politician, Raila Amolo Odinga’s plan to take oath of office early next year will do him more harm than good, Lugari MP Ayub Savula has said.

In an exclusive interview with a local daily on Saturday, Savula said that Raila, who took a fourth stab at the nation’s top seat in August has a legacy to protect, adding that he should reconsider the idea before that time comes.

The lawmaker, instead, urged the Luo political kingpin to start focusing on how he will rally the electorate behind Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi as he seeks to rise to power in 2022.

He further said that swearing in the opposition leader is meaningless because he lacks instruments of power. Savula argued that Raila will risks following the path taken by Uganda’s opposition Kizza Besigye, whose efforts to ascend to power have proven futile despite making several attempts.

“Swearing himself in will only serve to tarnish his image, he will only become another case of Uganda’s Kizza Besigye,” he said. The leader of the opposition has, however, maintained that he is ready to pay the price of being sworn for the sake of liberating Kenya from what he terms as poor governance.
