Firebrand Borabu MP Ben Momanyi says he 'regrets' defying NASA leader Raila Odinga but it was for the 'interest' of democracy.
Last week, Momanyi sneaked his way to the powerful PSC despite NASA disowning his name against his wishes.
"I am sorry for defying his stand but I did that for the interest of democracy and to his advantage," Momanyi was quoted by local media.
The move by the Speaker to certify his name caused jitters within parliament with Jubilee legislators backing his bid.
And Momanyi, a second term Wiper, insists that his loyalty for NASA remains unchallenged despite the parliamentary showdown.
"I am loyal to my coalition and my party leadership. Parliament is an independent entity where we should be allowed to compete without external influence," he said.
A debate over independence of parliament has ensued with pundits accusing MPs of betraying their oversight roles.
