West Mugirango MP Vincent Kemosi has criticized Environment CS Keriako Tobiko for opposing the building of a sugar factory in Nyangweta forest.
The Ford Kenya Party MP said it is too early for Tobiko to start opposing projects meant to improve the lives of the people.
“People in Gusii region will not die poor because of protecting forests in the region. Tobiko should accept 120 acres of Nyangweta forest be cleared to create room for the construction of a sugar factory for sugarcane farmers to sell their canes directly to the factory,” he said.
He called on leaders from Nyamira and Kisii Counties to stand firm and push for the construction of the Sugar factory in South Mugirango.
“The sugar factory which will be constructed in South Mugirango should be supported by all leaders irrespective of their political stand because this is a project which will boost earnings to cane farmers thus improving livelihoods,” he added.
Kemosi said Tobiko should stop misleading people by fake claims that forest cover will be diminished if the forest is cleared for the factory to be build.
