Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has now called for the formation of a caretaker government that will be responsible for the affairs of the country as Kenyans prepare for the October 26 repeat polls.

According to the lawmaker, the caretaker government will be formed through a legislative process and will ensure free, fair and credible presidential elections.

He further argued that the country is already in a constitutional crisis, and therefore would be prudent for the country to have such a government.

"Am suggesting the formation of a constituent assembly which will deliberate and come up with an interim administration," he said.

He also faulted the Attorney General Githu Muigai who last week asserted that the country cannot have a caretaker government.

"The truth of the matter is that we have reached a point that calls for extra-ordinary measures," the vocal MP noted.
