The Parliamentary Committee on Appointments has kicked off the exercise of vetting Cabinet nominees appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
However, Rarieda Mp Otiende Amollo has dismissed the process citing various issues that should be addressed first before the exercise is conducted.
Firstly, Otiende believes the exercise is a waste of time as all nominees will be approved despite 'real issues' of concern. Secondly, the legislator believes the exercise should cover all nominees even if they served previously.
"On Cabinet Vetting:1 waste of time as ALL will be approved despite real issues. 2 ALL CS Nominees must be approved anew, even if served previously, including AG. I wonder about the reluctance to present the full list, as ethnically & gender biased as it is," remarked Otiende in a tweet on Thursday.
Otiende's remarks come after legislators allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) confirmed that they will skip the vetting exercise citing that they do not recognize the 'legitimacy' of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"As a coalition, we still stand by the decision not to have our party representatives in the Committee on Appointments,” reiterated National Assembly minority leader John Mbadi on Monday as quoted by Capital Fm News.
Otiende went ahead to talk about the deportation case that had self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna was deported to Canada. The Mp humorously alleged that he will be deported to Juba in this 'deportation season' and asked Interior CS Fred Matiang'i where he will land when his time comes.
"It’s deportation season.. I guess they’ll take me to Juba.. and when your turn comes, Dr. Matiangi, where will you land..?" posed Otiende.
