Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo has hit out at President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto over their promise for free secondary education beginning this year.

Mbogo claims that Uhuruto used free education as a tactic to get votes in last year’s presidential election.

Speaking when he issued bursary cheques in Bamburi on Friday, Mbogo said that parents have been slapped with huge fees despite Uhuru’s promise to Kenyans.

He said that parents are paying up to 50,000 per year for day school students while up to 80,000 fees for those in boarding schools.

Mbogo said that it was wrong for UhuRuto to promise what they could not afford to deliver.

“It is unfortunate that UhuRuto lied to Kenyans that they will give free secondary education when parents are being forced to pay hefty school fees,” he said.

Mbogo said that the ‘fake’ promise raised integrity issue son Jubilee government. The NASA MP vowed to raise up the issue in the National Assembly when it resumes sittings.

On Thursday, Education cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i revealed that the government had released Sh29.5 billion to cater for free secondary education.

Free secondary education was one of Jubilee's manifesto in the run up to last year’s presidential election.
