An opposition Member of Parliament from Western Kenya has poured cold water on plans by the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga and his deputy Kalonzo Musyoka to swear themselves in.

Lurambi legislator Titus Khamala termed the move by the opposition leaders as a political sideshow, saying it won't help NASA reach 'Canaan'.

"Raila pledged to take us to the promised land of Canaan but instead he took us to the wilderness where we are suffering in cold. We are telling him that we are not ready to go to Canaan with him through his planned 'swearing-in'," he said on Sunday.

Speaking at Shikoti Grounds in Lurambi sub-county, Khalama accused Raila's party, ODM, of sidelining its partner in the alliance, the Amani National Congress (ANC) in sharing key posts in Parliamentary Committees.

"They took everything, sidelining other affiliate parties, particularly ANC, after Nambale MP John Bunyasi lost his bid for the Public Accounts Committee to Opiyo Wandayi," he said, as quoted by the Standard.

The MP urged ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi to ditch the opposition coalition and build his party in readiness for his 2022 presidential bid.

"We must focus on strengthening ANC ahead of 2022 elections, parties including Jubilee have challenges but we must overcome that and aim at clinching power," Khamala said.
