Teso North MP-elect Oku Kaunya has blasted his colleagues over high salaries demand.Photo/NationAt a time when a section of the newly elected Members of Parliament are engaged in a bruising battle with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission over their slashed salaries, a NASA MP has come out to reject the calls by his colleagues.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Teso North MP Oku Kaunya who was elected on an ANC party ticket said that the MPs' call for higher salaries is uncalled for even as he asked them to focus on service delivery for the electorate.
"Service delivery to the people of this great nation, Kenya, is very vital than an individual perspective. I firmly support the move by the SRC for the rationalization of public servants' salaries," said the MP-elect.
According to Oku, a one-time Administration Police Commandant, improved wages should be based on service delivery and provision, not status checkup.
The politician added that it's high time that elected leaders should focus on development to ensure that Vision 2030 is realized.
Other MPs who have lauded SRC's move to slash their salaries include Nyali MP-elect Mohamed Ali and his Gatundu counterpart Moses Kuria.
