Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo has accused Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i of ‘planning to perpetrate genocide’, According to the Standard, the lawmaker said that Matangi's actions show that he lacks goodwill for Kenyans who are backing the election of Former Prime Minister, Raila Amolo Odinga.
Speaking in Makueni County during a burial ceremony, the lawmaker said that the government has plans of frustrating the opposition, which he said is likely to lead to more bloodshed ahead of the fresh election.
“If there is no fairness, justice then there cannot be peace, the Government is preparing to commit genocide and Matiang’i should be the first one to be charged,” warned Maanzo, as quoted by the Local daily.
The sentiments of the lawmaker come after Matiangi banned protests in different parts of the nation including Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu city centers on the grounds that the supporters of the opposition were breaching peace before the October 26, election exercise.
In the meantime, opposition leaders have maintained that they will not take part in the rerun unless their demands are met. The leaders want Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba and other officials thought to have been behind the bungled August exercise dismissed with immediate effect.
