Kathiani MP Robert Mbui has allegedly warned sub-county commissioners and local chiefs against campaigning for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid.
Mbui alleges that some local chiefs in the sub-county are organizing public baraza’s and meetings to sell Jubilee government agenda to the people ahead of the August 8 polls.
The Wiper Party MP says that the Election Act prohibits civil servants and state officers from taking part in political campaigns.
Mbui now wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take action against civil servants contravening the Election Act.
“The IEBC and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) must take action against civil servants who are engaging in campaigns contrary to the Election Act and the election code of conduct,” he said as quoted by the Star.
The Wiper MP claimed that Jubilee has sensed defeat and is now using civil servants and Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) to look for sympathy votes.
NASA wrote to the DPP two weeks ago complaining about some CSs and senior government officials who the opposition claimed are campaigning for Uhuru’s re-election.
NASA asked DPP, Keriako Tobiko to order the arrest of the CSs allegedly campaigning for Jubilee failure to which the opposition will move to court.
