A section of MPs from the National Super Alliance (NASA) have claimed that the Jubilee administration is planning to kick out Chief Justice David Maraga.
Addressing the media on Thursday at Parliament buildings, the legislators led by Minority leader John Mbadi accused the government of intimidating the judiciary with an aim of making it submit to the executive.
According to Mbadi, the Jubilee administration was targeting CJ Maraga and wanted him out so that they can replace him with 'friendly people in the judiciary'.
He claimed that the recent attacks on the judiciary and the CJ was because the government had failed to suppress it like it had done to many institutions in the country.
"Judiciary is the only institution that is still limping after the Executive successfully managed to control the legislature. The government is, however, determined to suffocate it.
"Let them go directly to the point. We know they are targeting Maraga so that they have friendly people in the Judiciary. These attacks and threats are political and are aimed at making the Judiciary cower before the government," Mbadi told a press conference.
His sentiments were echoed by the other legislators who noted that the independence of the judiciary ought to be respected.
The lawmakers made the remarks after Jubilee party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju wrote to the CJ accusing him of favoring NASA.
