Speaking during a media briefing over the weekend, Wiper MPs led by Matungulu MP Stephen Mule said NASA principals signed a pact prior to the 2017 polls.

The MPs said that according to the pact, ODM Party leader Raila Odinga will not make another stab at the presidency in 2022.

The Wiper politicians revealed that Raila had agreed to shelf his presidential ambition in favour of their party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

“Those who want to divide NASA more want to put it as if Raila is running in 2022. Raila has put it very clear that he will support Kalonzo in 2022,” said Mule.

His sentiments were echoed by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui who said the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Raila and Kalonzo is still binding.

“NASA is made up of gentlemen who respect the agreements that were signed prior to the elections and so we know our party leader will automatically be the presidential candidate,” said Mbui.

“The pact already exists and it says ODM will not present a presidential candidate,” added Makueni MP Dan Maanzo.

The Wiper MPs questioned why Kalonzo’s 2022 bid is causing in-fighting in the coalition, adding that the former vice president must ascend to power in 2022.

“Why is it that when Kalonzo wants to ascend to power there is so much in-fighting which does not make any sense. Kalonzo will ascend to power in 2022. He might even ascend to power earlier than 2022,” said Mule.
