Opposition MPs have suffered a big setback after there calls for the recall of US ambassador Bob Godec for the US embassy in Nairobi were slammed by the US government.
The United States state department for Africa Affairs through spokeswoman Amanda Jacobson, declared that the ambassador “has our full confidence and support”.
On Monday Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi said that they would petition the US Senate in protest over Ambassador Bob Godec's “profound vendetta” over opposition leader Raila Odinga.
“Mr. Godec's continued stay in the country is injurious to the long-term relationship between the people of Kenya and the US,” Wandayi said.
“More like-minded MPs and I will petition the US government using the relevant and official channels to raise our concerns over this grave matter,” he said.
On the same Monday, Ambassador Godec did a critical comment on the Jubilee Government over the shutdown of Television stations in the country.
“The US again urges the government of Kenya to allow TV stations to re-open. Free media is essential to democracy. So is adherence to the Constitution and the rule of law. Court orders must be respected,” he said in a twitter message.
Seven Republican members in the house of representatives from Illinois in the US Senate have been calling for the appointment of Kyle McCarter to replace Bob Godec as US ambassador to Kenya.Kyle McCarter is a Republican member of the Illinois state legislature and heads an NGO in Tharaka Nithi county called Each One Feed One.
