Members of Parliament allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) have hinted at skipping President Uhuru Kenyatta’s address in Parliament on Wednesday.

The lawmakers argue that Uhuru has nothing new to tell them because he has failed to deliver his promises to Kenyans.

Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama said they are likely to summon NASA legislators to urge them to skip the State of the Nation address.

“There is nothing we can be told because we know nothing has been achieved by the Jubilee regime. You cannot talk about achievements when you have doctors and lecturers on strike. Other civil servants are threatening to go on strike. We have corruption in every corner of the country,” Muthama was quoted by the Star.

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) director of political affairs Opiyo Wandayi said he will not listen to Uhuru’s address.

“It’s a mockery of our democracy and constitutionalism. I’ll not bother listening to his address,” he said.

ODM chairman John Mbadi on his part said under the Jubilee administration, the cost of living has risen to unprecedented levels.

Mbadi said Uhuru had failed to fight corruption and insecurity.

Last year, Wandayi and Mbadi were among ODM lawmakers who disrupted Uhuru’s address in Parliament by blowing whistles.

“The steps we took last year helped to some extent because they galvanised the country to push for reforms in the IEBC. Immediately after that firimbi (whistle) in the House, it got to the street and we got the IEBC commissioners out. We can’t use the same strategy every year,” Mbadi said.
