Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Opposition have criticised president Uhuru Kenyatta's State of the Nation address, that was delivered, March 15.

Led by Homa Bay Women Representative Gladys Wanga, Rose Nyamunga (Kisumu County), Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir (Mvita), Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini) and senators Mutula Kilonzo Jnr (Makueni) and Hassan Omar (Mombasa), the lawmakers termed the speech as below average.

Wanga said the president's speech was 'mere PR', to lure Kenyans that his government had performed.

She said he delivered nothing new since he failed to accomplish his promises to Kenyans since he assumed office.

Nassir said the move by the president to ask elected leaders to agree that their salaries be slashed, was an indication that "the economy is falling.''

On his part, Omar said he was happy salaries of MPs, governors, senators, MCAs would be reduced, so as the monies can be diverted to development.

"This will erase the believe that one should seek an elective post so as to enjoy huge salaries. That is the only thing laudable with the president's speech,'' he told the press, after Uhuru completed the speech, at parliament buildings, Wednesday.

Wanga finally said the Opposition, Nasa, would respond to the address, in no time.
