Opposition leaders in Western Kenya have decided to end their party rivalry and focus on drumming up support for NASA flagbearer Raila Odinga ahead of next month repeat poll.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Ford Kenya and Amani National Congress (ANC) have been embroiled in supremacy battles in the region considered an opposition zone.
Ahead of August 8 polls, ANC and Ford Kenya accused ODM of undermining them during the campaigns.
The two parties also wanted Raila Odinga, ODM party leader, to withdraw candidates in Western, arguing that ODM should not compete with them in their backyard.
The sibling rivalry cost NASA some seats in the poll which Jubilee won majority of seats in all races.
Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala said the leaders decided to bury the hatchet to ensure Raila defeats President Uhuru with a wide margin.
"We have decided to end our rivalry and focus on delivering votes for Raila Odinga. We will campaign together for Raila to win the presidency in the repeat presidential election," Malala told the Standard.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya said the leaders will conduct aggressive campaigns as a united team.
"On Saturday we will launch our campaign drive that will ensure that the county delivers votes for Raila," Oparanya said.
The politicians were speaking after a meeting with all NASA elected and nominated leaders in Western on Tuesday.
