[PHOTO/the-star.co.ke].The Nasa coalition which brought together five political heavyweights in the run-up to August 2017 General elections, made the country tremble when it decided to give the ruling Jubilee party a run for its money.Though the contest isn't yet over having shifted to the Supreme Court benches, Nasa is sure to remain in many Kenyans memories even in the event it loses the presidential petition. It was and still is a formidable force that made and makes Jubilee 'wet its pants'.However, NASA's continued survival as it is now, is heavily dependent on the Supreme Court ruling on the election petition Nasa filed at the court on Friday. A ruling in NASA's favour will mean a stronger and a more united Nasa while a contrary ruling will mean the opposite.Similarly, some of the NASA's five principals have pegged their hopes on a positive Supreme Court ruling, failure to which, they will be as good as done, at least for the next five years.Nevertheless, two among the five are not dependent on the Supreme Court ruling. A ruling in either way is not likely to impact so much on their political capital and their political relevance will continue to be felt as we take the road to 2022.The first one is Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula. He has been the Bungoma Senator since 2013 and was re-elected in the same capacity to serve till 2022. He has also been the Senate Minority Leader, a position he is almost assured of whether Nasa gets power or not. With these positions, Wetangula will continue to project his voice beyond the Senate walls and come 2022, he will still be a force to reckon with. The other one is Amani National Congress (ANC) Party leader Musalia Mudavadi. He may have another five years to spend in political cold, but he will not be forgotten. Mudavadi, after hibernating politically snce 2013, he re-emerged in 2017 stronger and firm and is even credited for the formation of Nasa coalition. Mudavadi was also able to consolidate his Western base and his party clinched more elective seats than in 2013. His bargaining power has surely gone up and come 2022, Mudavadi will still be relevant. For the other three, your guess maybe as good as mine.
