The Nationals Super Alliance (NASA) is ready for next month’s general election, opposition chief Raila Odinga has said.
On Tuesday, Raila stated that the Kenyans are tired of the Jubilee administration and thus won’t allow the August 8, poll date to be altered.
“We are prepared for the General Election. We don’t want the election day to be moved even by one day because Kenyans have shown they are tired of this administration,” said Raila as quoted by the Nation.
The NASA presidential candidate dismissed the Jubilee Party claims that the opposition’s move to file court cases was a sign it was not ready for the elections.
The former Prime Minister also faulted President Uhuru’s recent attack on independent institutions such as the Judiciary.
He also claimed Uhuru was planning to reject the outcome of the polls after sensing defeat.
“Concerned by their failures and fears of losing power, President Kenyatta and his Deputy have in recent weeks resorted to intimidating independent institutions as campaigns tighten and things swing out of their control,” he said during a news briefing at Capitol Hill Towers office in Nairobi.
The said Uhuru should promise Kenyans that he will hand over power peacefully if he loses the presidential election.
“There is a full scale mobilisation and training of officers drawn from police, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service, prisons and the military. This only happens in a dictatorship. President Kenyatta appears to be preparing to reject the election results because he knows he will lose. We have seen over the years the increasing militarisation of the State and the moving of the President around the country in military fatigues,” he noted.
He said the opposition is ready to protect its vote to prevent rigging.
