The government has linked the ongoing nurses' strike to the opposition.

The industrial action has paralysed medical services in most public hospitals and health centres.

Speaking on Thursday, government spokesperson Eric Kiraithe claimed that a section of the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) officials could be taking instructions from Opposition leaders.

He, however, appealed to them to call of the strike.

“My message to the nurses is that whatever it is you are arguing about, don’t fall for the gimmicks of political tricksters, who would deem it worthwhile to cause suffering or even sacrifice human life for temporary causes,” he observed.

At least twelve people have died since the strike begun.

The nurses downed their tools on Monday, demanding for the implementation of a Collective Bargain Agreement (CBA) signed between them and the government.
