Deputy President William Ruto has since announced a 3-month logging ban in a bid to solve the tree felling menace that has led to a huge portion of the nation's water catchment areas cleared.

According to the Senator, however, Jubilee cannot do much as most of the block's insiders are beneficiaries in the business.

In a tweet Monday, the lawmaker revealed that 80% of Jubilee elected members have shares in the tree felling business, especially in the Mau Forest, adding that Jubilee's move is only aimed at hoodwinking Kenyans.

''How on earth would this government expect to save the Mau yet 80% of the people in the current government including MPs , Senators, Cabinet Secretaries have encroached into the forest?'' wondered the ODM Senator.

He also alleged that the authorities mandated with the task of protecting the water catchment areas are also a hindrance to the campaign, urging Kenyans to take it upon themselves to salvage the forests.

''Unless we all come together and take a serious stand all rivers in Narok will dry up and the Mau Forest will be no more in the near future. The sad part is that even those who are tasked with taking care of the forest are among the illegal beneficiaries of the Mau,'' said Ole Kina in a separate tweet.
