A Senator allied to the opposition's NASA Coalition has declared his interest to run for presidency in the 2022 General Election.

Vihiga lawmaker George Khaniri said he was ready to wrestle country's leadership from the ruling Jubilee Party.

"Western Kenya has been undermined for a long time in national politics. I am ready to unite the communities in the region so that we produce the next president," Khaniri said on Wednesday.

The decision by the Amani National Congress (ANC) Senator could rekindle political rivalry between him and his party leader, Musalia Mudavadi.

The ANC boss is also eyeing the top office in 2022.

In 2015, Khaniri warned to run for presidency if NASA principals Raila Odinga and Mudavadi failed to unite ahead of the 2017 presidential election.

The Senator joins the crowded race to State House which has also Deputy President William Ruto, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetang'ula, Hassan Joho, Peter Munya, Kithure Kindiki among others.
