Lawyer James Orengo has hailed the inclusion of Thirdway Alliance Ekuru Aukot in the presidential race as ‘victory’ to the rule of law.
Shunned by IEBC, Aukot went to court to seek interpretation of Supreme Court ruling of 2013, which IEBC is said to have relied on to gazette only Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga as candidates.
And with Odinga having withdrawn, Orengo blamed IEBC for stalemate adding that their advisors failed to give proper interpretation of the law.
“IEBC should rely on people who can give them proper legal interpretation. They have failed to interpret basic things thus the stalemate.
“I knew Aukot would win and that is welcome and it has shown that judiciary can do its job properly. We welcome him but after reforms are done,” he said.
To make a decision, Aukot said, he will do so after engaging IEBC for the remaining days before issuing a formal communication.
Sources within NASA say Aukot may join Odinga in withdrawing from the race, a move that could complicate matters.
