Through the National Super Alliance (Nasa), residents of areas affected by curfews want acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’I compelled to lift the curfews.

The counties affected by the dawn to dusk curfew are Lamu, Garissa and Tana River.

The residents argue that the curfew is likely to affect voting come August 8. They say it would delay voting.

Lawyer Arnold Oginga said NASA agents and the public would be locked out of polling stations and tallying centres if the curfew remains in place.

"The applicant is apprehensive the actions shall compromise the integrity of the forthcoming General Election dated August 8 2017, and thereby result in infringement of its political rights, as guaranteed in article 38 of the constitution," said the lawyer, as quoted by The Standard.

CS Matiang’I, IEBC and the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet are the respondents in the case.

Lawyer Oginga says the curfew in the three counties should be lifted before the voting day.

He claims the curfews were not declared in the right way.
