Details are emerging that a group of NASA supporters pounced on a traffic police officer and roughed him up before stealing his personal effects.
According to Naivasha sub-county commissioner Isaac Masindethe incident occured Wednesday morning when several mini buses were ferrying supporters towards Nakuru after attending the 'swearing in' of Raila Odinga as the people's president on Tuesday, January 30 at Uhuru Park.
Sources said the officer lost several items including his beret, swagger cane and mobile phone.
“The officer lost various personal effects including part of his uniform and mobile phone and once we arrest the suspects we shall charge them with robbery with violence,” Masinde said.
The drama started when a bus carrying the supporters was flagged down. After it was parked off the road, the supporters alighted and charged towards the officer.
In a group, they pounced at the unarmed officer and roughed him up, a witness said.
"Other officer watched but the crowd was so wild, they were also unarmed," Philip Kahonge said.
Masinde said the officer was rescued by members of the public.
The group of youths run back to their mini bus and drove away.
“We have laws in this country and everyone regardless of his status or background has to respect them and we are there to enforce them come what may,” he said.
