The aspirants are reported to have held strategy meetings to craft a lineup to oust Lusaka seem to be reading from different scripts, the Star has reported.

Ford Kenya hopeful Wycliffe Wangamati confirmed to the Star on the phone on Friday that talks were on for the opposition to field one candidate to contest against Lusaka.

“Yes, we have already had talks with Alfred Khang’ati and Anthon Tawai. We will be reaching out for more so we have a formidable contest against Lusaka,” said Wangamati as quoted by the Star.

Tawai was seeking the ANC ticket but has stepped out of the race, saying he will soon declare whom he will support.

Others contesting in NASA affiliate parties include former Kanduyi MP Alfred Khang’ati (ODM) and Cofek boss Stephen Mutoro (Ford Kenya).

Khang’ati told journalists that he has been talking with Wangamati but dismissed claims he had agreed to be his running mate.

The ODM's aspirant, Alfred Khang'ati, said he is strongly in the race to correct the mistakes made by Lusaka.

He also confirmed the talks but denied claims that they were about him stepping aside for another candidate.

“I am firmly in the race. I have said nowhere that I have an interest in being somebody’s deputy. It will not happen,” he said.

“Our talk was on how to remove Lusaka from the top seat and had nothing to do with anybody stepping down to favor another,” he added.
