Immediately Chief Justice Maraga announced the nullification of August 8 presidential elections in which President Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner, residents of Awasi Township in Kisumu and neighbouring villages broke into joyous celebrations.
Shouts of joy, ululations and whistling rung into the air as residents came out in droves to celebrate NASA’s win in the Supreme Court.
Residents gathered along the Kericho-Kisumu and Kericho-Eldoret highways to celebrate. Boda boda operators with their passengers jammed the busy highways with their motor cycles “decorated” with twigs while hooting and with lights on. The passengers on their part screamed their hearts out with others shouting, “NASA tibim! NASA tialala!”
'Vuvuzela' sounds also pierced into the air as joyful youth could not hide their ‘gratitude to the Supreme Court judges for overturning Uhuru’s win in last month’s election. Cars are being forced to stop at the Chemelil junction and after being ‘decorated’ with twigs and told to drive with their lights on, they are allowed to proceed with their journeys.
On a majority vote, the Supreme Court has overturned President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win and ordered the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct a fresh presidential election in 60 days.
