Supporters of the NASA coalition have vowed to defy acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i over his prohibition of their adopt-a-polling-station strategy.
The supporters said they will go ahead with their efforts to safeguard Raila Odinga's votes in the polls by being present at polling stations despite Matiang'i's statement that limited the persons allowed to remain at voting centres.
Matiang'i directed that it is only presiding officers, their deputies, the polling clerks and accredited party agents who will be allowed at polling stations on August 8.
"There is no room anywhere in the law or even in the arrangements that we have for anybody collecting hoodlums in the name of protecting ballot boxes and taking them to polling stations," the CS said on Friday.
"The protection of ballot is our responsibility with the IEBC and we have not asked anyone for help."
But the NASA Young Turks have come out saying they will not be cowed by Matiang'i's threats.
"The CS is participating in scare mongering and perhaps he is part of a wider scheme by the government to scuttle the elections," said Nairobi branch chairperson Jonah Onyango on Saturday.
