NASA coalition has protested Jubilee’s party to reduce nomination slots meant for the opposition-affiliated parties as the nine slots for Kenya at the East African Legislative Assembly stage an imminent battle for the two camps.
Jubilee party has held that it would seek to take six out of the nine positions while leaving the other three seats to Wiper and ODM parties while ruling out ANC and Ford Kenya for not meeting the threshold for consideration.
“Only three parties will share the nine slots. Jubilee, ODM and Wiper; out of the nine slots, six belong to Jubilee, while NASA will share out the other three among their affiliate parties,” said Aden Duale, the majority leader.
Suna East MP Junet Mohammed opposed the move saying the matter deserves adjudication because the allocation of the slots was done in the last parliament when Jubilee could take five members, while CORD parties nominate four to EALA.
EALA was to kick off house business on June 4 this had been made impossible after Kenya failed to present her members after Jubilee party shot down a list of those fronted by the opposition.
NASA seems to defy Jubilee on the list of nominees as they have held that they are bringing the names of Raila Odinga’s brother Oburu Oginga and Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka for consideration.
Other member states have already sworn in representatives at EALA and no business can be conducted before all member states have representation.
