Despite the much anticipated Mathare rally on Friday, it could take a while before National Super Alliance supporters know their presidential flag bearer.

With only five months to elections, the opposition coalition is facing an uphill task of choosing from among top four politicians their flag bearer.

And a source privy to the ongoing wrangles indicates that Wiper Party, under the stewardship of Kalonzo Musyoka has made it difficult for the team to conclude outstanding issues.

Tentatively, coalition principals Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula were to use consensus to choose among them flag bearer before the end of March.

“Wiper has been using the 2013 MoU with ODM to rock things. We have to wait for a little while to fix this,” a top ODM lawyer spoke in confidence.

“They are trying to fix issues and hopefully by Mid-April all will be well should they not agree by tomorrow,” added the source.

National Assembly Minority Leader Francis Nyenze has maintained in public that Wiper will only be part of the coalition if Musyoka is declared candidate.

However, technical committee chairman James Orengo has maintained that the coalition will make a major announcement during Friday’s rally even though the source maintains it will be a normal rally.

“Nothing is going wrong and that is just the usual theatrics of press. We shall make a major announcement,” he said on Wednesday.
