The opposition coalition, the National Super Alliance (NASA) now wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) stripped of its boundaries mandate.

Speaking during the alliance's People's Assembly rally at the Uhuru Gardens in Mombasa on Sunday, NASA co-principal Musalia Mudavadi alleged that the body is planning to review the country's constituency borders with an intention of increasing the number of constituencies, from the current 290 to an unspecified number.

The Amani National Congress party chief observed that with the commission yet to clear its name over the August 8 and October 26 presidential elections rows, it should not be entrusted with the responsibility.

"We have reports that the IEBC is planning to further increase the number of constituencies in the country. it wants to further subdivide them to give rise to more," he said.

"However, based on the commission's questionable conduct in the concluded presidential polls, it has demonstrated incompetence and cannot be entrusted with the boundaries responsibility as well," he added.

The alliance is yet to accept any of the poll results, with the Wafula Chebukati-chaired agency declaring President Uhuru Kenyatta victor both times, leaving NASA crying foul alleging that it won and accusing the body of collaborating with the ruling Jubilee Party to rig it out.
