The Opposition coalition NASA has sparked a fresh battle with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over an alleged plan to manipulate election results through secret polling stations yet to be declared.

NASA accused the electoral commission of not getting clear on the exact total of polling stations in the country despite making numerous inquiries.

However, the IEBC in a rejoinder said it had finalised the list of voting centres and that they are 40,000 in total.

In a Tuesday statement, IEBC indicated there are 41,000 polling stations when the agency released the final number of voters (19,611,423).

“Consider the openness around the register of voters. We kept giving figures right from registration. We had a one month verification exercise where people came to check if their finger prints matched their registration details,” said IEBC communications manager Andrew Limo.

“It worked well. Now we have inspection using SMS and online,” he said.

NASA presidential running mate Kalonzo Musyoka however said they have not been provided with the final number of polling stations, something he says has made planning for the elections very difficult.

“Voting in secret polling stations are some of the strategies that have been developed to manipulate the outcome of the August poll,” he said.
