National Super Alliance (NASA) will lose terribly in the August 8 polls if it fronts and endorses Raila Odinga as its flag bearer and Kalonzo Musyoka as deputy, a political analyst has said.
Peter Ngure, a Kiambu based political analyst and constitutional lawyer notes that a Raila- Kalonzo combination has no muscles to wrestle President Uhuru Kenyatta out of power. “A Raila- Kalonzo line up will not excite voters especially in NASA strongholds,” he said during an interview on Thursday.
The analyst observed that a Raila- Kalonzo lineup will be an easy run for Jubilee government in August. “NASA will gift Jubilee an easy win if it fronts Raila and Kalonzo as flag bearer and deputy,” he added.
Ngure said that for NASA to trounce Jubilee and form the next government, Raila has to sacrifice his bid and endorse a different candidate. “Uhuru will be smiling all the way to the ballot if Raila is endorsed as NASA presidential flag bearer,” he added.
The analyst said that the best lineup for NASA is to either have Kalonzo as flag bearer and deputised by a different candidate or have Musalia Mudavadi as flag bearer and deputised by someone else.
Ngure said that NASA’s unity now depends on who will be endorsed as flag bearer. He said that the alliance has the potential of unseating the ruling government if it carefully and strategically picks its flag bearer.
There have been speculations that NASA’s technical committee has settled on Raila- Kalonzo and Kalonzo as flag bearer and deputy respectively. A leaked NASA technical committee report revealed that Raila is NASA’s flag bearer to be deputised by Kalonzo.
The leaked report is now causing cracks in the alliance with ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani confirming that Raila is indeed NASA flag bearer. Kalonzo and Mudavadi have disowned the leaked report saying that NASA has not yet agreed on flag bearer.
The two politicians held a secret meeting on Wednesday to discuss ODM revelations that Raila has been picked as NASA flag bearer. All the NASA principals are eyeing to fly the alliance presidential ticket in the August polls.
