The National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition will not be allowed to form a parallel vote-tallying centre during the August 8 general election, says Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery. Mr Nkaissery, a former ODM MP, on Saturday said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is the only institution with the mandate to to oversee elections in the country. The CS said any politician with the intention of tallying or relaying poll results was out to cause chaos in Kenya, Citizen reported. He praised newly installed IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati for standing up to NASA’s intention to set up a parallel tallying centre. “I want to congratulate Chebukati for putting off those people intending to conduct parallel tallying centre,” Citizen quoted the CS as saying. In defending his move to campaign for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election bid, the CS said he was only protecting his job.“People are saying that CSs are engaging in politics. I am politicking because am appointed by the president and if he loses I lose my job. So when am standing here to ask my people to vote for the president I am defending my position,” said Nkaissery.
