Opposition coalition NASA Deputy presidential candidate Kalonzo Musyoka has maintained that they will withdraw the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) army from Somalia should the outfit win the presidency on August 8.

Speaking in Lamu on Saturday, the former Vice President noted that KDF has no business in Somalia, adding that Kenya has no strategic interest in the war torn Eastern Africa country.

He argued that it was pointless for the country to keep her troops in a foreign land when her own internal security is in tatters.

“KDF has no business being in Somalia when the country itself is in dire need of security," he said.

“Look at the rampant insecurity that Jubilee has driven Kenya into. Nasa will ensure the troops are withdrawn from Somalia so that they can concentrate on guarding our borders,” he added.

On his part, NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga called on the government to lift curfews in Lamu, Tana River and Garissa counties, noting that curfews do not adequately help in averting insecurity.

“The government should strengthen the security apparatus instead of opting for curfews whenever security challenges arise," he said.
