Opposition’s debate to push for the secession of some regions will not stop anytime soon, NASA strategist David Ndii has said.
The talks for self-determination will only if the Central government will respect the fact that Kenyans from various regions should be allowed to run their own affairs without State interference, Ndii said.
“All our problems including why people steal elections is because they do not want us to sit down and negotiate the foundation of our country as people who should have a right to exercise some autonomy and sovereignty over their historical and ancestral areas and have control over resources,” he said.
“Talking about self-determination is our right because we must define the unit by which we shall renegotiate our Kenyan nationhood because it must be negotiated.”
The economist was arrested on Sunday, November 3, evening and taken to the Diani Police Station when he was on vacation at the Leopard Beach Hotel with his family.
He was picked up by seven men who claimed that he (Mr Ndii) was needed for questioning.
Speculations were rife that he was arrested following his recent appointment as the new head of the opposition’s People’s Assembly National Steering Committee when he said Kenya will see ‘plenty of alarming news ahead of NASA leader Raila Odinga ‘swearing-in’ that was slated for December 12.
“We cannot continue with this bogus leadership where people are put in computers. We have refused that,” Ndii who spoke in Kwale at a meeting also attended by opposition chief Raila Odinga said.
“If we have to rebuild this nation, it has to be built on a new foundation, a foundation where regions should have the right to say our relationship with the centre only goes so far or no more, not sending police here to come and kill us because we have refused to vote for you.”
President Uhuru Kenyatta while opening the governors’ induction conference early in the week warned the opposition against speaking about secession.
Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart are the key architects of the idea in Coast region.
