A youth activist in Mombasa has rubbished calls by President Uhuru Kenyatta for national prayers, saying Kenyans should pray for the country every day.

ODM Mombasa youth leader Ali Kubo said the President should unite the nation instead of calling for prayers yet the country is divided along political lines.Reacting to the President's declaration that Sunday will be a national prayer day, Kubo said the country is heading in the wrong direction and needs God’s intervention.“The President should work towards uniting this nation. We are in a trying situation, he should not have a tough stand,” said Kubo.Kubo said the country is not prepared to hold the repeat presidential polls slated for October 26.“We want to pray for calmness from God yet we are divided along political lines and none of our leaders want to engage each other on matters concerning national unity,” said Kubo.He appealed to the President to stop intimidating NASA supporters first instead of pretending to unite Kenyans in prayers. His sentiments were echoed by Mvita youth leader Mohammed Hussein who said the country was not prepared to hold elections.Hussein said youth have been praying for this country before the August 8 general elections, adding that they do not need to be reminded by the President.“What makes President Uhuru call for national prayers now? We are reminding him that we pray every day and he should also do so,” said Hussein.
