Political analyst Joseph Simekha. He argues that NASA's adopt a polling station is not illegal and therefore, should be allowed as IEBC cannot be trusted to 'protect' cast votes. [Photo/ ntv.co.ke] NASA's adopt-a-polling-station has continued to draw mixed reactions with some welcoming the move while some say it is simply unacceptable.Acting interior CS Fred Matiang'i and the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet have said that no 'idlers' shall be allowed near or around the polling stations on August 8. Their message has been, vote and go home. However, Political analyst Joseph Simekha says that there is nothing illegal with voters staying around the polling station to 'protect' their votes as Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga puts it."We are not saying that these people stay in the polling station as it is only the authorized persons that should be there but around the polling station, there is nothing wrong or illegal with that," Simekha told NTV's Decision 2017 on Sunday."People have got a constitutional right to gather in public places as long as they are peaceable, unarmed or engaging in anything criminal. Nobody should be worried about them," he added. He warned the police against disrupting peaceful gatherings saying their work is to detect, prevent and stop commissionable offences.Nevertheless, lawyer Tommy Randall speaking at the same time, said that for the sake of public order the public should keep off the polling stations."The good judgement would be, if I have voted let me go home. IEBC is an independent and credible body and we should leave it to do its constitutional duty," Randall said.
