Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has dismissed claims that the National Super Alliance (NASA) is only interested in power and not providing solutions to issues facing the country.
Omar said NASA’s agenda is beyond power sharing.Speaking on Wednesday during an interview on K24, Omar noted that NASA’s agenda is to transform the country’s economy, fight corruption and tribalism, empower women, youth and persons living with disabilities in a bid to end social, economic and political injustices.Omar, who is the Wiper Party Secretary General, said NASA is not interested in creating political positions that are not stipulated in the Constitution.“We (NASA) have no intention of creating political positions to reward loyalties once we form government in August as being claimed in some quarters,” he said. The Senator urged Kenyans to support NASA, adding that it will push for key development projects that the current Jubilee government has failed to initiate. His statement comes amid claims that NASA intends to amend the Constitution by creating new political positions if it wins the August 8 general election. On Wednesday, NASA top leadership signed a power sharing agreement. The Alliance is expected to name its presidential flag bearer soon.A 12-member committee is said to be finalising on the process of how the Alliance will pick its flag bearer.A section of Jubilee politicians led by Deputy President William Ruto have dismissed NASA, saying they are confident of retaining power come August.
