The National Super Alliance (NASA) politicians should stop beating around the bush and clearly state what they want from their constant fight against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).During IEBC’s special meeting with political parties seeking the presidency on Monday, NASA-allied leaders were not shy — they wanted the electoral body to involve them in deciding who to award the printing tender of election materials. That was shocking. In short, either NASA leaders want to get the contract to print the presidential election materials or they are keen to help the cartels who finance them to catch the lucrative deal. This follows a controversial high court ruling, which cancelled IEBC’s tender to Dubai-based firm Al Ghurair to print the ballot papers. Many questioned why the court did not fault the awarding of the tender to print ballots for the other positions — such as governor, senator, MP etc. In sharp contrast, top Jubilee officials, led by National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and his Senate counterpart Kithure Kindiki said they did not care on who was given the tender to print the election materials. All they were interested in is seeing that the election was held on August 8, as provided for in the constitution. The government officials have accused the opposition of using courts to delay the elections, by installing road blocks for the IEBC, in a bid to force a coalition government with Jubilee. In all fairness, NASA does not seem to be ready for the elections. They are doing everything to make the 5-year exercise stay away. If they want to get part of the multi-billion ballot printing tender, let me say so. Although they may not get it, at least Kenyans will know who their main motive is to pay back those cartels who finance them and to enrich themselves.
