Former Taita Taveta Women Representative Joyce Lay has rubbished National Super Alliance (NASA) push for the creation of people’s assemblies, arguing that the move is unconstitutional.Lay, who unsuccessfully contested for the Taita Taveta senate seat in the August 8 general election, said the constitution does not provide for the formation of people’s assemblies as the opposition claims.Speaking to journalists in Voi Town on Thursday, Lay said Members of Parliament (MPs) and senators are the people’s representatives in the National Assembly and the Senate. She accused NASA politicians of misinterpreting the constitution to achieve their own agenda.“NASA leaders should stop confusing Kenyans by pushing for agendas that are not backed by the constitution,” she said. The Jubilee politician asked Kenyans to ignore NASA’s calls to form the assemblies. She hit out at opposition leaders, claiming they are plotting to topple President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.Lay said the plan will not work as Uhuru’s re-election in the October 26 repeat presidential election was legitimate. Lay also warned NASA politicians against pushing for the secession of the Coast region.
