Nation Media Group’s senior reporter Walter Menya will serve more detention at the Muthaiga police station.
Principal Magistrate Martha Mutuku directed that Menya be detained for another day to give police time to take his fingerprints.
The prosecution had made applications to remand him for three days.
Mutuku however directed that he be released by 5pm today after police are through with the process.
She also ordered that Menya's lawyers be allowed to talk to him after Siaya Senator James Orengo claimed that since Sunday he has not been allowed to access to his legal team.
The case will be mentioned later today for further direction.
The journalist was arrested last Sunday on suspicion that he took a bribe from a news source.
